O'Driscoll Collective is looking for three dance artists for the creation of their new work “Something Outta Nothing ”. Accepting Applications from all abilities, races, cultures, religions and backgrounds but must be aged 18+.

Something Outta Nothing (SON) is a new site-specific dance-theatre work created by Jamaal O'Driscoll, which combines Dance with audio technology and a narrative created in conversation with local communities. This phase of the project will produce a 30-minute professional show, toured and adapted to hyper-local environments. Seeking to diversify perspectives of the spaces and the communities who share them. This project is supported by Strike A Light, 101 Arts and Arts Council England.

JOB ROLE​

  • To be a Dance Artist throughout the creation of SON
  • To perform SON in a range of community & industry sharings
  • To support and engage with outreach activities with schools/community groups
  • Feature in the creation of a trailer film
  • To contribute to post-sharing discussions​

QUALITIES WE SEEK

  • A compassionate, personable and mature performer to join the company for this ambitious work
  • Ability to contribute creatively to the development of the work
  • Strong improvisation and creative skills
  • Strong performance presence and authentic movement dynamics
  • Comfortable with movement grounded in Breakin, Hiphop & Rock Dance
  • Comfortable with physical theatre
  • Comfortable working in non-dance spaces (e.g. car parks, church halls, skate parks, forests)
  • Comfortable working in the creation of dance film
  • The ability to collaborate and work well as part of a diverse team
  • An openness to work closely with others and try something new
  • The ability to work well under pressure
  • A willingness and openness to work with the community / non-dancers
  • Good fitness level
  • Good teaching skills

  • 6 July – 11 July 2025 (Location - Birmingham)
  • 21 July - 25 July 2025 (Location - Gloucester)
  • 28 July - 3 August 2025 (Location - Newbury) ​ / 2 August - (Non - Contracted Date)
  • 4 August - 6 August 2025 (Location - Gloucester)
PLEASE NOTE: Applicants should state in their application if there are any issues with any of the dates or details listed. The company has minimal flexibility with its schedule and requires Dance Artists to be committed to the project.

FEE & FREELANCE CONTRACT

£601 per week x 4 weeks* (*Summer2025) PLUS holiday pay (12.7%), travel and accommodation
O'Driscoll Collective contracts performers in line with ITC / Equity Agreements for best practice.
*This is a freelance-based contract for an initial total of 4 weeks / 20 days (Summer 2025) engagement with a possible further contact to be issued for Autumn 2025 UK.
Please Note – Performers must be eligible to work in the UK and aged 18+.

AUDITION WORKSHOP CONTENT

OC understand how daunting and intimidating audition environments can be, therefore we aim to create an open, safe and welcoming space and encourage all individuals to be mindful of this when attending the audition workshop.
The audition workshop will be led by Jamaal O'Driscoll and will include the following:
  • Improvisation
  • Individual & Group Tasks
  • Exploring some of Jamaal's techniques & approaches to movement
  • Physical Theatre Games
  • Developing Short phases & movement patterns
  • Physical Fitness & Stamina

HOW TO APPLY

This is an invite audition only.
Interested applicants should submit:
  • A paragraph or video (maximum 2 minutes) outlining why you are interested in this project
  • A current dance CV or portfolio (maximum of 2 pages of A4)
  • A recent headshot
  • Link to social media
  • A showreel or link to video footage of relevant movement material (Dropbox / WeTransfer / Google Drive)
Note: Please ensure that footage is good quality, relevant to the specific requirements of the job and is
NO longer than 3 minutes in length. If sending footage of ensemble work, please highlight clearly who you are.
