CRABS IN A BARREL
Exploring themes of toxic masculinity, stereotypes and disruption – Crabs in a Barrel is Jamaal O’Driscoll’s first 40-minute piece.
Crabs in a Barrel brings together male dancers of a range of movement specialisms, alongside a bespoke sound score - using spoken word that has been inspired by research & interviews with black creatives in the Midlands. Jamaal is keen to explore the audience journey: from entering the venue, walking through the foyer areas, to taking their seats in the theatre itself; and looks to animate this route with activity related to his research which in turn informs the final work. Using Jamaal’s signature Breakin’ style, Crabs in a Barrel builds on the success of his previous work ONE% and solidifies his creative voice as one to watch in the Hip Hop Theatre sector.
